The Playground Revolution
02 Feb 2010
Leading playground equipment designers and manufacturers, Sutcliffe Play, exhibited at the first ever Health and Wellbeing in Education show at the NEC in Birmingham.
The show highlighted the strong links between health, wellbeing and achievement, and brought together healthcare and education professionals with the aim of improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people to provide them with firm foundations for later life.
The Government has clearly recognised this, with extensive investment in new strategies that enhance the role of schools as the centre of their communities, and the requirement of the NHS and local authorities to work together to target the whole school community.
The company exhibited a range of innovative equipment from the Snug kit and invited children from Smith’s Wood School in Solihull to visit the show and bring Snug to life for visitors.
Snug, the revolutionary concept in loose parts play for school playgrounds, is designed to transforms bleak playgrounds into dynamic and creative playscapes inspiring children to explore, create, discover and learn.
The colourful kit, comprising nine large scale, inter-related, colourful, flexible shapes can be reconfigured by children to vary their surroundings.
Snug is the result of a fifteen year process of research and evaluation into the way that children behave, react and play in specific environments by playground artists Snug & Outdoor.
Snug changes the established patterns of behaviour in the school playground by engaging children’s imaginations and giving them the satisfaction of being able to change their own surroundings. It allows children to develop new ways of playing, encourages creativity social interaction and cooperation.
